Would You?

Metered poem

Would you want to go on a walk with me?

Your heavy presence made me feel complete.

But did you even want my company?

You said there was no one but you and me.

To be you was full of lies and deceit.

Would you want to go on a walk with me?

 Whispered promises with no guarantee;

Walking with you would have been a retreat.

But did you even want my company?

Still, being with you left me full of glee.

You were silent so I had to repeat,

Would you want to go on a walk with me?

Your love was as rough as bark on a tree.

I thought to hide from the pain of your heat.

But did you even want my company?

It took me too long to realize that we

were always going to be incomplete.

In the end, you never did walk with me.

I no longer wanted your company.
